Beverages, Cereal, and Desserts

A liquid diet consists of foods that are liquid when at room temperature and soft desserts made with eggs and milk. For beverages have clear liquids, carbonated and non-carbonated fruit drinks. Also have coffee, coffee substitutes, milk and milk drinks, nectars, tea, vegetable juices, infant formula, liquid nutritional supplements and electrolytes replacement drinks.
Cooked cereal is considered liquid when it is thin enough to pour. Have farina cereal, strained oatmeal, cream of rice and thinned grits.
Have custard, gelatin, regular ice, cream, plain puddings and sherbet, fruit ice, yogurt plain or flavored without added whole pieces of food. These liquids serve as dessert.
Eggs, Fruit, Meat, and Miscellaneous

Liquid eggs consist of eggnog mixes, soft-cooked custards, and frozen pasteurized eggs. Don't use fresh raw eggs due to risk of salmonella bacteria.
Liquid meats would be pureed thin with milk or broth. Fruit strained or in juice form is considered liquid fruit. Also, pureed vegetable mixed with broth or milk fits into a full liquid diet.
Eat clear broth, strained or pureed soups on a full liquid diet. Some other foods that are fine on a full liquid diet are chocolate, salt, sugar, hard candy, and seasonings.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The following diet is a simple sample of the full liquid diet. For breakfast have ½ cup orange juice, ½ cup thin grits or other thin cereal of choice, ½ cup gelatin, 1 cup coffee or tea, and 1 tbsp. sugar.
For lunch have ½ cup grape juice, 1 cup strained cream of chicken soup, ½ cup pudding, 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup coffee or tea and 1 tbsp. sugar.
Eat a liquid dinner of ½ cup tomato juice, 1 cup strained cream of vegetable soup, ½ cup chocolate ice cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup coffee or tea and 1 tbsp. sugar. If whole milk is not tolerated well, omit milk or substitute with lactose-free milk or soymilk.
