Diets for Every Day
While fad diets do exist and help accelerate weight loss, the weight loss people experience is usually only temporary. Once people stop following these fad diets, they may end up gaining more weight and be heavier than they were before they started the diet. To maximize your weight-loss potential and be successful at long-term weight loss, you must find the right diet plan for your individual, everyday needs and stick with it.-
Low-sugar Diets
-
According to the 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet website, Americans consume 2 to 3 pounds of sugar a week. The low-sugar diet is ideal for people who eat large amounts of sugar every day and are interested in changing these detrimental eating habits and living a healthier lifestyle. This low-sugar diet consists of eating foods that have no sugar or low sugar. Exclude high-sugar foods such as soft drinks, fruit drinks and mixed coffee drinks, all of which contain high amounts of sugar. You would also exclude foods with large amounts of processed sugars. By consuming foods and drinks with less sugar, you will be eating foods with more valuable nutrients and fewer preservatives.
All-natural Diets
-
The all-natural diet consists of eating only plant-based foods. This means you do not eat any meat or milk products. To get adequate amounts of protein, eat soy products, tofu and beans and legumes. However, in preparing these foods, you must use only natural spices and herbs. People on this diet do not use processed sugars or salt to add flavor to foods; instead they must prepare fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs in natural ways to add flavor to food.
Portion-control Diets
-
The portion-control diet is one of the easier diets to maintain. Web MD reports that portion-control diets are ideal for long-term weight loss. What makes this diet different from other diets is that you can still eat foods you would normally eat; the only difference is you would change the serving size of each food item or meal you consume. You can still have those cookies; just eat two cookies instead of four. By reducing the serving size, you reduce caloric intake and fat intake, which helps you lose weight. This diet allows you to eat foods you enjoy without feeling deprived.
Low-carb Diets
-
The low-carb diet consists of eating more foods with protein as opposed to consuming foods with large amounts of carbs; therefore, this might not be the right diet for you if you enjoy eating breads and other foods with large amounts of carbs in them. People on this diet eat a certain amount of high fat-high protein foods per day along with a variety of fruits and vegetables with low carbs. While people may lose weight quickly, the downside to low-carb diets is the lack of variety and high-fat, saturated-fat and cholesterol content. One way to significantly reduce the high amount of fat, saturated fat and cholesterol in this diet is to consume lean proteins.
