Alkaline Water Uses

Alkaline water is water that has been ionized through electrolysis. Some people believe alkaline water benefits human health, including through detoxification. There are many household uses for alkaline water as well. Depending on the alkaline levels of the water, you can use it for several different things.
  1. Alkaline Water for Adult Human Consumption

    • Alkaline water for human consumption has a pH of 8.0 to 10.0, which is higher than tap water. There have been several suggestions that alkaline water neutralizes acidity in the human body, and as a result, boosts metabolism and energy leading to weight loss. Ionized water does taste fresher and doesn't have any odors. Babies should not be given alkaline water. Instead, it is recommended that they are given neutral water, which has a pH of 7.0.

    Alkaline Water for Gardening

    • Alkaline water is useful for gardening and plating . Plants thrive when gardeners use alkaline water to water them, but not without drawback. While plants are stronger with use of alkaline water, over time they become more basic. As a result, they're not able to process and acidify water as necessary, which creates nutrient deficiencies within the plant. If you use alkaline water for gardening, add potassium, iron, phosphorous and nitrogen as supplements, and expose your plants to natural rainfall when possible.

    High Alkalinity Water

    • High alkaline water has a pH of over 11.5. Ionized water at this level is unsafe for drinking. However, you can use high alkaline water for cleaning fertilizers, pesticides and fungi from produce, cleaning oily surfaces and in environmentally friendly house cleaning.

    • You can purchase bottled alkaline water form at your health or healthy grocery store. Alkaline water bottles are also sold online through large health and retail merchants. If you do not wish to purchase bottles, you also have the option of purchasing a home ionizer, which vary in price.
