The Juicing Process

Regular juicing can enhance a person's overall health. It allows individuals to increase the amounts of fruit and vegetables that they consume. You can create a wide variety of delicious juice combinations, all of which are full of essential vitamins and nutrients. Juicing is an easy process and, regardless of your age, you can reap great health benefits by adopting a juicing routine.
  1. Choosing a Juicer

    • Centrifugal and masticating juicers are the two types of juicers on the market. Centrifugal juicers grind fruits and vegetables and push them through a strainer while ejecting the pulp. Because processing juice in this manner requires a lot of oxygen, the nutritional value of the juice diminishes. Masticating juicers crush the juice by breaking up the cells and chewing the juice fibers. Masticating juicers provide higher quality juice as less oxygen is needed during processing. Centrifugal juicers are easier to use and clean, and masticating juicers require more cutting, slicing and cleaning.

    Combining Fruits and Vegetables

    • You can create juices from fruit and vegetable combinations; however, it is a better idea to juice fruits and vegetables separately. The body uses different stomach acids to digest fruits than it does to digest vegetables, so combining the two may cause you to have an upset stomach. Your juice also takes longer to assimilate because the body uses different enzymes to digest vegetables than fruits. Apples are the only fruit that combines well with vegetable juices.

    Drinking Your Juice

    • For optimal nutrition, it is best to drink your juice right away. The longer your juice sits, the more it oxidizes, which causes the juice's nutritional value to diminish. Vacuum packing your juice is an option that will help to sustain its nutrients. Those who enjoy the convenience of ready-made juices may choose this option. However, drinking your juice immediately is most beneficial nutritionally.

    Clean Up

    • Cleaning your juicer is easy if you rinse it immediately after use. However, if you let your juicer sit, fruit and vegetable particles will get stuck in the juicing strainer. Loosening the small fruit and vegetable pieces is difficult because they are so tiny. They can block your juicing strainer, which affects how the juicer functions, and these particles can also attract mold. Always rinse your juicer right away to avoid these problems.
