- Choose lean protein. Lean protein, such as fish, chicken, and beans, can help to keep blood sugar levels stable.
- Limit added sugar.Added sugar is a major source of empty calories, and it can spike blood sugar levels. Limit added sugar to no more than 6 teaspoons per day for women and 9 teaspoons per day for men.
- Drink plenty of water. Water helps to flush excess glucose out of your system and keeps you hydrated.
- Limit alcohol consumption. Alcohol can interfere with blood sugar control, so it's important to limit alcohol consumption to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
By following these tips, Anita can create a type 2 diabetes-friendly diet that will help her to manage her blood sugar levels and prevent complications of the disease.
