Foods With the Lowest Amount of Carbs
Eating low-carb foods does not mean you have to live off of beef jerky and eggs. There are several low-carb options available in all the food groups. Even foods you thought were taboo, such as fruits, have lower-carb choices.-
Meat
-
Meats such as chicken, beef and pork have no carbs. These foods are very high in protein but can also be high in fat.
Seafood
-
Fish such as salmon, tuna or mackerel are lower in carbs than clams, oysters and mollusks. Shrimp, crayfish and crab have less carbs than lobsters, octopus and scallops.
Dairy
-
Dairy products such as eggs, butter and hard cheeses are lower in carbs than milk, yogurt and soft cheeses. Powdered creamer substitute has a lot more carbs than heavy cream.
Vegetables
-
All vegetables have carbs, but starchy vegetables have more carbs than leafy vegetables. For example, spinach, cabbage and Romaine lettuce are lower in carbs than corn, white potatoes and peas.
Fruits
-
Fruits contain natural sugar that can be high in carbs. Blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are higher in carbs than watermelon, pears or peaches but you get more berries in one portion size than you do the other fruits. This can help you cut back on your portion size without feeling deprived, thus lowering the amount of carbohydrates you consume.
