Foods That Reduce Cravings While on the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet

If you are starting a low carbohydrate diet, cravings for high carbohydrate foods can seem uncontrollable especially around mid-day and late evening. Giving up these high carb foods can be especially difficult if you are addicted to these foods. There are certain foods that help you avoid these cravings and give you the push you need.
  1. Proteins Curb Hunger

    • Proteins can reduce cravings and give you a sense of fullness. Eating items such as nuts, meats, fish and whey protein can help curb your urges to binge on forbidden foods. Having these foods on hand will keep you from reaching for prepackaged sweets and chips. Simply place a handful of nuts in storage bags. You can count them out so you know exactly how many calories or carbs are in each bag. Store meats or fish in storage bags in the fridge for easy convenience as well, or simply blend up some whey protein and have a filling shake.

    Berries in Exchange for Sweets

    • If you are craving sweets, you can have some strawberries, raspberries or blueberries to help curb your sweet tooth. The natural sweet taste of the berries may help ward of those urges for sugar filled treats. You should be cautious, however, in using any of the artificial sweeteners on those berries to obtain a sweeter taste. Artificial sweeteners have been known to actually cause these cravings so you may want to limit your use. It is always best to eat these berries in their natural raw state.

    Vegetables in Exchange for Pasta

    • A craving for pasta may be eliminated by slicing zucchini thinly into the size and shape of pasta. You can also add your own homemade spaghetti sauce without sugar and some ground beef to the zucchini for a pasta-like meal. Cooking eggplant in exchange for pasta in meals such as lasagna may also curb those pasta cravings.
