The body can absorb up to 120 grams of carbohydrate per hour from the small intestine. If we assume this is all in form glucose how many moles have been absorbed?
The molar mass of glucose, C₆H₁₂O₆, is 180.16 g/mol.
If the body can absorb up to 120 grams of carbohydrate per hour, this means it can absorb 120 g glucose per hour.
To convert grams to moles, we need to divide the mass by the molar mass. Therefore the number of moles of glucose that can be absorbed per hour is:
$$mols = \frac{mass}{molar \space mass}=\frac{120}{180.16}=0.666 \space mols$$
Therefore, the body can absorb up to 0.666 moles of glucose per hour.
