Foods for a Low-Calorie Diet

A low-calorie diet is a great place to start when attempting to lose weight. It is not as hard as it might seem to find foods that qualify for low-calorie meals. They key is to prepare them to your tastes so that you can stick with your diet.
  1. Lunch Meat

    • Lean lunch meat is very low-calorie, and it will fill you up. Making a lean lunch meat sandwich with low-calorie mayonnaise and mustard, romaine lettuce, low-calorie cheese and tomato is a great lunch option. It is also full of vitamins and minerals.

    Cottage Cheese

    • Low-calorie cottage cheese will give you the vitamins you need from dairy products. A cup of low-calorie cottage cheese is only 80 calories, and you can add a fruit like blueberries or pineapple as well, which gives you part of your daily fruit requirement.

    Rice Cakes

    • Plain rice cakes with no salt are low in sodium as well as a low-calorie food. Each rice cake is about 35 calories and there are other flavors you can choose from. The flavored rice cakes have only a few more calories, but they will be tastier than the plain ones.

    Popcorn

    • Natural popcorn that you make in an air popper is very low in calories and sodium.

    Cherry Tomatoes

    • Cherry tomatoes might be small, but they actually have more flavor than some full-size tomatoes. These are perfect for adding to salads and sandwiches. Also, four cherry tomatoes only have about 10 total calories in total, which makes it a great fruit to add to your diet because of all the vitamins and minerals they possess.

    Pickles

    • Whole dill pickles and slices are perfect for a snack or to add to sandwiches. Keeping these on hand will help stave off the munchies. Do not eat bread and butter pickles which are loaded in calories and sugars.
