About a Low-Cholesterol, Low-Blood Sugar Diet

When you have low blood sugar and need a diet that lowers your cholesterol, it can be pretty tricky. A low cholesterol diet focuses on lowering the LDL or low density lipoproteins. These are the ones that clog your arteries. That can cause heart attacks and strokes by building up, narrowing the opening and constricting the flow of blood.
  1. Time Frame

    • Eat frequently. Separating your meals into smaller portions consumed more frequently helps to keep the blood sugar levels stable. Eat 6 small meals daily.

    Types

    • Select fresh fruits and vegetables over juiced, dried, canned, or process ones. Use more fruits than vegetables if your sugar is unstable. This is good for both the blood sugar and cholesterol.

    Identification

    • Look on the labels for whole-grain flours. Use only foods that contain unbleached whole grain flour. These are fiber rich. Soluble fiber lowers cholesterol and also minimize the fluctuation in blood sugar. Foods like beans, oatmeal rice bran and barley are high in soluble fiber.

    Go Nuts

    • That's right. Peanuts, walnuts and other types of nuts are excellent for controlling cholesterol and low blood sugar. Peanut butter is another highly overlooked item for people attempting to lower their cholesterol. It does have fat, but it is the good kind. It helps lower the cholesterol, and it is a staple for those that need to control blood sugar.

    Warning

    • Avoid trans fats and fried foods. Egg yolks and fatty meat don't hurt your blood sugar, but they certainly add to a cholesterol problem. Unfortunately, just like fatty meats, butter; cheese and whole milk are restricted also.

    Coffee

    • Watch your vices. Alcohol, caffeine and nicotine have no place on a low cholesterol, low blood sugar diet. They contribute to cholesterol build up and make your blood sugar go crazy.
