Find foods that are organic. This is one of the main requirements of a macrobiotic diet. The foods should be eaten fresh and not prepared with any additives. Over a quarter of your diet should be made up of organic vegetables.

Consume a lot of whole grains. Brown rice, whole wheat breads and other grains should make up about half of what you eat on a daily basis.

Get your protein from fish. Eat fish and legumes for your body's protein requirement since meat is prohibited on the diet.

Bulk up on soup. Macrobiotic dieters should eat one or two bowls of soup every day.

Eat foods slowly. The way that you eat is also part of following a macrobiotic diet. You are not permitted to rush through meals.

Prepare foods in a traditional way. The macrobiotic diet does not make use of the microwave. True followers must use traditional items to prepare and cook their foods.
