How to Flush Your Body of Sugar

Someone may want to flush their body of sugar, or glycogen (the form your body stores sugar in) for a variety or reasons. Maybe her blood sugar is too high and she wants to reduce it, maybe she wants to perform a carbohydrate loading cycle for a competition or maybe she's trying to lose weight. Whatever reason, depleting your body of sugar can be easy to do, but difficult to do properly.

Cut your carbohydrate intake down to 50 grams per day. This means from every single thing that you eat during the day--dairy, vegetables, fruit, breads, every food group. The only carbohydrate that doesn't count is fiber. Subtract the grams of fiber from the total carbohydrates to get your net carbohydrates. Keep that number under 50 g. For example, if you ate 80 grams of carbohydrates, and had 35 grams of fiber, your net would be 45 grams, which is acceptable.

Consume 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. Keep in mind that 100 grams of meat is not 100 grams of protein. This can be from any source as long as the carbohydrate intake is not exceeded. Meat is preferable, and don't worry about it being lean.

Consume 1 gram of fish oil per percent of body fat every morning. It's best to go get a body-fat skin fold test, not to use your body mass index. If you are 20 percent body fat, you need 20 g of fish oil per day with your morning meal.

Get a minimum of 25 g of fiber per day. With the intake of protein being so high, it is imperative to include plenty of fiber. It is best to supplement with a product such as Psyllium Husk to meet the fiber requirements.

Exercise regularly and drink plenty of water. The exercise will help you use blood sugar to further help you flush it from your body. The water is essential to keep you from becoming dehydrated.
