Diets to Cleanse the Body

A cleanse can help rid your body of toxins, cure the addiction you have to salty fatty foods, clear up skin and help you lose weight. Cleanses can be great as long as they are done safely and for a short period of time. Detox your body and gain energy with a cleanse.
  1. Cleansing

    • Fasting has come under review as a quick way to cleanse. This is not a great idea for everybody. Fasting drastically lowers your blood sugar levels and can lead to drowsiness and fatigue, leaving you feeling hungry and dizzy. Cleansing instead consists of paying attention to what you are placing in your body. Canadian Living recommends that you cleanse on a five-day Monday-to-Friday schedule because making adjustments on the weekend can be difficult.

    Eliminate Coffee

    • Imagining giving up coffee may be difficult, but consider what it does to your body: coffee contains caffeine which can lead to hypertension or insomnia. It also acts as a diuretic, and is acidic. Many people feel shaky when giving up coffee. You can reduce the discomfort by supplementing with herbal teas. A decaf green tea also has added detoxification benefits.

    Eat Colorful Foods

    • Eating a green vegetable and a yellow or orange vegetable a day is a great start. The more colorful a vegetable is, the higher it's nutritional content. Fruits and vegetables are also high in fiber and packed with vitamins. Incorporate them into your diet as snacks or entrees and you'll notice a difference right away.

    Eat Lean Protein

    • Consume lean protein like chicken, fish, egg whites and soy. Avoid eating red meat for five days.

    Drink Water

    • Drinking water aids in the elimination of toxins. It also creates a full feeling longer, so you may find yourself consuming less food. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
