Kidney Cleanse Recipes

The kidneys are responsible for removing waste and toxins from the body, regulating the body's fluids, controlling the production of red blood cells, releasing hormones that control blood pressure, and producing vitamin D which promotes strong and healthy bones. Many people turn to a kidney cleanse to promote healthy kidney function, prevent kidney stones, and improve overall health.
  1. Reasons to Cleanse

    • Popular reasons to do a kidney cleanse include ridding the body of harmful toxins as well as preventing or flushing out kidney stones. Kidney stones are a solid stone-like mass that form from oxalate or calcium crystals in the urine. Diet can play a crucial role in preventing kidney stones. When the body consumes excess salt, it then causes the body to flush out calcium through the urine, which then creates the risk of developing a kidney stone. Drinking at least three to four quarts of fluid during the day and changing your diet by reducing consumption of excess salt, protein, calcium, oxalates, and potassium can reduce your risk of developing a kidney stone. However, it is essential to check with a dietitian or doctor to ensure that you are getting the recommended amount of nutrients a day.

    Recipes

    • Use eight ounces of water, one-half of a lemon, one cucumber, four celery stalks, and three sprigs of parsley. Put all ingredients into a juicer or a blender.

Try juicing or blending eight ounces of water, four to six slices of watermelon, and two apples, seeded and sliced.

Both recipes should be consumed along with plenty of water throughout the day. Drinking liquids is essential for flushing out toxins, and harmful crystals that could form into painful kidney stones.

An additional kidney-cleansing recipe is designed to give the body nutrients it needs while also ridding the body of harmful toxins, sodium, poisons and acids. The recipe calls for filling a cooking pot ¼ full of carrot peelings, ¼ full of potatoes peelings, ¼ full of chopped onions, ¼ full of dark greens and celery, a few whole chopped beets, and 50 cloves of garlic. Add distilled water to cover, and simmer all the ingredients in the pot on low for one to two hours. After the mixture has been simmering allow it to cool, strain the solids, and then consume only the broth of the ingredients.
