Detoxification Diet Foods

Many detoxification plans call for a strict diet of nothing except vegetables and fruits. While this can have a big impact, it also deprives the body of necessary nutrients. A safer and better tasting detox program is one that eliminates specific items but allows the consumption of foods that keep the body healthy. The goal of the detox diet is to eliminate poisons and other toxins from the body. Avoiding all processed and refined foods while eating only organic items is the focus.
  1. Foods to Eat

    • Fruits and vegetables are staples of any detox plan. Fruit can be fresh, dried, frozen or canned. Creating smoothies is a popular method of consuming plenty of fruits. Make these with fresh fruit or unsweetened, drink-ready juices. All vegetables are acceptable. Eat them as naturally as possible, and don't add salt to create a better flavor.

Beans are acceptable in any form, as are oats and potatoes with no dressings. Fresh fish, unsalted nuts and seeds, honey and plenty of water are all allowed.

    Foods to Avoid

    • It's important to avoid all meat products, including red meat, chicken, turkey and pork items. Most dairy, such as milk and cheese, should be avoided as well. All sweets, junk foods, coffee, tea, alcohol, salt, pickles, soft drinks, salad dressings bought at the store and any salt should not be consumed.

    Meal Plans

    • Breakfast options include fresh fruit with natural yogurt and some oats mixed in or a smoothie with fresh fruit. A lunch menu can consist of a Mediterranean salad with rice cakes. Use fresh basil, black pepper, tomatoes, avocado and unsalted nuts as toppings. Tuna with a potato and salad is another meal choice. Eat a jacket potato with tuna on top and mix it with sweet corn or natural yogurt and serve it with a salad. Some dinner ideas are baked salmon and a jacket potato. This can also be eaten with steamed vegetables. You may also try a Chinese stir fry. Select your preferred vegetables and mix them with bean sprouts, spring onions, a little olive oil and ginger. A side of brown rice can be added to the meal.
