A Lemon Juice Cleanse, With The Rind

Lemon has been recognized for centuries for its cleansing properties, and it is still used as a holistic remedy today. A lemon juice cleanse can help cleanse the body, works as an antioxidant due to its high level of vitamin C, and aids in the absorption of iron. While using lemon juice is a common practice, the rind tends to be discarded because of its bitterness. However, lemon rind also contains strong antioxidant properties, and by combining lemon rind with sweet agave nectar, the bitterness is balanced out.
  1. Ingredients for the Lemon Tonic

    • Before preparing the lemon juice cleanse, it is necessary to prepare a tonic in advance. The ingredients are: agave nectar, lemons, cinnamon, and fresh ginger.

    Peel the Lemon

    • Peel the rind off of two lemons. Chop the rind finely and place in a glass jar.

    Combine the Ingredients

    • Add two tablespoons of agave nectar to the glass jar. Be sure it fully coats the lemon rind. Also add half a teaspoon of cinnamon, and half a teaspoon of grated ginger.

    Refrigerate

    • Refrigerate the lemon rind mixture for three hours. While you wait, squeeze the juice of the lemons into one liter of water.

    Mix with Lemon Water

    • Add the lemon rind mixture to the liter of lemon water. Shake well. Either wait for the lemon rind and ginger to settle to the bottom, or strain the tonic through a sieve before drinking.
