Bad Effects of Caffeine on the Body

Caffeine is not always bad for you. One small cup of coffee a day can be beneficial to your health. However, ingesting three or more cups of coffee or continually drinking caffeinated beverages throughout the day can cause adverse effects.
  1. Dehydration

    • Caffeine acts as a diuretic, meaning it pushes out more fluids faster than your body is accustomed to. If you don't replace the lost water, you can easily become dehydrated in a matter of hours.

    Jitters

    • Caffeine stimulates our bodies and this can result in shaky hands, anxiety and upset stomach.

    Sugar and Caffeine

    • Most caffeinated drinks come with sugar. Sodas, sweet teas and any coffee that is not black not only comes with a rush of caffeine but with many empty calories as well.

    Insomnia

    • Ingesting caffeine all day long can interrupt your sleeping patterns. The residual stimulant from your last caffeinated beverage may keep you from falling asleep at your usual bedtime and can keep you from entering a deep sleep. The lack of sleep will make you groggy the next morning, inducing you to wake yourself up with coffee or a soda.

    Addiction

    • It is very easy to become addicted to caffeine as it becomes part of your daily routine. If you don't feed your addiction, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue and irritability.
