Nutritional Value of Fritos

Since 1932, the Frito Lay Company has been churning a simple concoction of corn, corn oil and salt into millions of curly, crunchy Frito Lay corn chips. Portion control is the key to enjoying Fritos corn chips as part of healthy diet. Even Frito Lay recommends not eating its famous corn chips straight from the bag.
  1. Calories

    • One standard 3-ounce snack-size bag of Fritos corn chips contains 3 servings. For nutritional data labeling purposes, 1 ounce of corn chips is considered one serving, equivalent to about 32 chips. A serving contains 160 calories, of which 90 calories come from fat. Eat the whole bag, and you have consumed 480 calories, of which 270 calories come from fat. Frito Lay does offer a portion-controlled 100-calorie snack pack, of which 60 calories come from fat.

    Carbohydrates

    • A 1 ounce serving of original Fritos corn chips has 15 grams of carbohydrates, of which 1 gram is dietary fiber and less than 1 gram is simple sugar.

    Fat

    • A 3-ounce bag of Fritos corn chips contains 10 grams of fat, of which 1.5 grams is saturated. Frito Lay discontinued the use of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils in 2003, and Fritos corn chips are trans-fat free. Eat an entire 3-ounce bag, and you have consumed 30 grams of fat, nearly 50 percent of the recommended daily allowance for an adult following a 2,000 daily diet. A 100-calorie pack contains about 7 grams of fat.

    Sodium

    • The USDA recommends that adults following a 2,000 daily diet consume no more than 2400 milligrams of sodium each day. A 1 ounce serving contains 170 milligrams of sodium or 7 percent of the recommended daily allowance. Eat the whole bag, and you have just consumed 510 milligrams of sodium or 21 percent of the RDA.

    Gluten-Free

    • Fritos original corn chips contain no wheat products and are gluten-free. People diagnosed with celiac disease, who cannot tolerate eating products that include the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley, can enjoy Fritos corn chips without aggravating their digestive systems.
