Perricone Anti-Aging Diet

One of the key ways to keep skin young and healthy is to nourish it from the inside. A diet high in anti-oxidant rich foods, like the one devised by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, can help in giving the skin a youthful appearance.
  1. Protein

    • Adequate protein is essential for cellular repair. Eating fish is one of the best ways to get protein because of its high Omega-3 fatty acid content. Yogurt is another good source, containing good bacteria that promotes healthy intestinal tract functioning.

    Fruits and Vegetables

    • Look for the most colorful fruits and vegetables, because they're loaded with skin-loving anti-oxidants. Cantaloupe is especially good for plumping up your skin; Dr. Perricone recommends adding extra cantaloupe to your diet a day or two before a special event.

    Good Carbohydrates

    • Include carbohydrates in your meals, but make sure they're from a good source. Limit pasta, bread, cereal, potatoes, rice and corn. Opt for non-starchy vegetables, and fruits with a lower sugar content.

    Unsaturated Fat

    • Every meal should include a small amount of unsaturated fat; one teaspoon of olive or flax seed oil, two or three large olives or a few nuts will do the trick.

    Foods to Avoid

    • Avoid sugar, red meat and hydrogenated oils and fats. Limit dairy to low or non-fat. Choose egg whites instead of whole eggs. Never fry food; steam, grill or saute instead.
