Techniques to Lower Blood Pressure

High blood pressure carries imminent risks of heart attacks, strokes, heart disease and other medical problems. Along with medication, there are plenty of techniques that can lower blood pressure quickly and naturally.
  1. Take A Warm Bath

    • A warm bath promotes vasodilation, or opening up of the blood vessels. This will cause blood pressure to drop almost immediately. As an added benefit, aromatherapy salts and beads can be used for extra relaxation. Once you are fully calmed and ready to finish the bath, be careful as you stand up. Since blood pressure has been greatly decreased, it could cause fainting if you get up too fast. Ease up very slowly, making sure you have some thing sturdy to hang on to while you stand.

    Meditate

    • Allow your mind to relax and practice controlled breathing techniques. If possible, get some relaxing music and do this on a daily basis. Imagine a time or a location that calms you down. This can be a place you have been or fantasy locale you dream of going to. Take deep breaths while doing this. This will loosen up muscles, decrease tension and reduce stress with will translate into lowering blood pressure.

    Get Plenty of Sleep

    • Sleeping automatically decreases blood pressure. Getting an adequate amount of sleep (7 to 8 hours) each night will decrease blood pressure over long period of time. Try to stick with a regular schedule as much as possible. If your sleeping habits are erratic, it makes it more difficult to get the proper amount of rest to keep blood pressure down. Try to take short naps if you are unable to keep a sleep schedule. Do whatever you can to get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep every night, as this will lower blood pressure and assist with other health conditions.
