History
-
Cadbury Eggs were first produced in 1923 by Richard and George Cadbury, using the company name of The Cadbury Brothers. The Crème Egg formula that is on the market today, however, was not manufactured until 1971. While popular items in the UK market since their creation, Cadbury Crème Eggs did not become common in the United States until The Hershey Company licensed Cadbury products in 1988. Eggs for both countries are produced at the Cadbury factory in Birmingham, England, where almost 2 million are manufactured daily.
Composition
-
A Cadbury Crème Egg is made with a thick milk chocolate exterior that is shaped like an egg and embossed with a simple star pattern. Inside the milk chocolate shell is the soft "crème" filling, called "fondant," which is a mixture of egg, sugar and heavy cream. The fondant is naturally white, however a small dollop of yellow-colored fondant is added to the filling to resemble the yolk of an actual egg.
