When you head to the concession stands, there's more to worry about than just losing the money in your wallet. The light, buttery popcorn may taste delicious, but you may want to consider the fat content before purchasing your next bucket.
  1. AMC/ Regal Cinemas

    • A large bucket of buttered popcorn at AMC Theatres or Regal Cinemas contains 126 grams of fat. Of that, 73 grams are saturated fat. Without the butter, there are only 31 grams of fat, including 27 grams of saturated fat.

    Edwards, Hoyts

    • A large bucket of buttered popcorn from Edwards Theatres or Hoyts Theatres contains 126 grams of total fat with 73 grams of saturated fat. Unbuttered popcorn contains 77 grams of fat, including 55 grams of unsaturated fat.

    Kid-Size

    • A buttered kid-size portion of popcorn at most cinemas contains approximately 37 grams of fat, with 22 grams of that saturated. Unbuttered children's portions contain 20 grams of fat, with 14 grams of that saturated fat.

    Act II

    • Popcorn at home has much less fat. A bag of Movie Theatre Butter ACT II popcorn contains 12 grams of fat with 0 grams of saturated fat.

    Considerations

    • If you must have popcorn at the theater and are concerned about fat content, share it with somebody or opt for a smaller size to decrease the saturated fat. Asking for no butter also cuts down on fat.
