How to Become a Nutritionist in Toronto
Getting nutrition and fitness advice is not just for adults. According to The World Health Organization, 20 million children worldwide under the age of 5 are overweight. According to Dr. Paul Veugelers, an Alberta professor of public health, children are not getting enough supervision at home or in school when it comes to preventing childhood obesity. He believes that teaching children proper nutrition at a young age will prevent childhood obesity. With the advent of video games, children in Toronto (like much of the rest of the kids worldwide) would much rather sit in front of their television with a bag of potato chips than play an invigorating game of basketball. So what can you do as a concerned citizen of Toronto to give good nutrition and fitness advice to stem the tide of obesity in children? Become a nutritionist. This is how you become a nutritionist in Toronto.Things You'll Need

1
Understand how food and fitness work together. In order to give good food and nutrition advice, you first need to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition. Dietitians of Canada (DC) offers a list of accredited Canadian Universities with an education program specifically focused on becoming a nutritionist. For example, you may want to enroll in Quebec's School of Dietetic and Human Nutrition program or in Vancouver's Food, Nutrition & Health program.
If you have not received your degree from a Dietitians of Canada accredited university, you must contact a DC accredited undergraduate program and have an assessment of your educational background. You may be admitted to one of their programs or you may apply to one of their internship programs in lieu of having to take another four-year course. -
2
Complete a supervised, hands-on practical training program, which is akin to an internship. You can either complete your internship during your undergraduate years or you can do it as a post-graduate. DC is flexible as long as the internship is completed.
