Minerals Needed for Natural Hair Growth

Many minerals promote healthy and natural hair growth, and they can be found readily in a wide variety of foods. Supplements are also available; however, speak with your doctor about which types and dosages are right for you. An essential balance of the proper minerals can contribute to strong, healthy hair.
  1. Iron

    • Iron is essential for healthy hair growth. It also helps to keep hair strong. Iron-rich foods include red meat, eggs, fish and dark, leafy greens such as spinach.

    Zinc

    • By strengthening the hair follicles, zinc can help prevent shedding and thinning of the hair. Zinc is most commonly found in high-protein food, such as red meat, salmon and beans.

    Calcium

    • Calcium helps hair grow strong and healthy. It can be found in fish, nuts, beans and most dairy products.

    Magnesium

    • Magnesium, particularly in conjunction with calcium, promotes hair growth. Foods rich in magnesium include fish, nuts, whole grains and particularly green vegetables.

    Copper

    • As well as stimulating hair growth, copper keeps hair follicles healthy. Copper can be found in shellfish, legumes, green vegetables, nuts and soybeans.
