How to Prevent Crashing After Having an Energy Drink

With overwhelming commitments, responsibilities and overscheduled days, it's n o wonder drinks that promise a boost of energy and hours of riveted attention are more popular than ever. Unfortunately, what comes up must come down and that's true with energy boosts as well. Here's how to prevent the crash after an energy drink.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the label and consume only the recommended amount of the energy drink. Too much of the drink can over stimulate your body and create a hard crash afterwards.

    • 2

Look for drinks that contain alternatives to caffeine and sugar. Most energy drinks contain the same amount of caffeine as two cups of coffee. The caffeine along with sugar creates the boost and the resulting crash. Some alternatives include "Hair of the Dog" or drinks labeled "XS Energy."

    • 3

Examine the ingredients of the drink to make sure it has amino acids. Stimulants reduce the amount of neurotransmitters located in the brain, making the effects of the crash felt. Amino acids help to build these transmitters up and the more you have, the less likely the crash becomes.

    • 4

Drink the energy drink slowly rather than chugging it all at once. Allow your body to slowly absorb the stimulants to also release them slowly. This helps avoid the immediate boost and the harsh crash after it leaves the body all at once.

    • 5

Lay off the alcohol while drinking energy drinks. Alcohol is a depressant while energy drinks are the opposite by design. Mixing the two confuses the body and both are diuretics, so you risk dehydration as well. Keep yourself hydrated and avoid sending mixed signals to your body so it doesn't get so confused to help avoid a post energy drink crash.
