Avoid drinks and foods that have bright colors, strong flavors or odors because they typically have the toxin coal tar in them. Bright colors are extracted from coal tar and used for food dye in products that are usually marketed toward children. The American Cancer Society has stated that the ingesting of coal tar in foods is a known cause of cancer.

Stay away from meat that can be kept in the refrigerator for long periods of time, such as salami, bologna and other delicatessen meats. They contain the toxin sodium nitrate which prevents bacteria from growing in the meat. Sodium nitrate mixes with stomach acid to form nitrosamines in the human body and this substance is known to cause many forms of cancer in our organs.

Buy foods that aren't processed. Processing is transforming raw ingredients into food in a factory. Most foods are processed with chemicals.

Read the label on your food's packaging. Stay away from food additives such as the toxin mono sodium glutamate or MSG, which is poison to the body.

Use unprocessed sugar (called sugar in the raw) or natural sweetners such as stevia instead of artificial sugars which are basically chemicals. Aspartame (NutraSweet and Equal) is known to cause an array of medical issues and worsen existing medical problems. Sucralose or Splenda is made by taking sugar and replacing three groups in the molecule with three chlorine atoms. The effect of this particular chemical is not yet known, as the product is fairly new.

Purchase organic hormone-free meat, eggs and milk. A hormone called diethylstilbestrol is found in 85% of all meats sold in the United States. This hormone has been proven to cause breast cancer and cancer of the reproductive organs.

Purchase organic fruits and vegetables which are free of toxic pesticides. Risks of ingesting pesticides include, Parkinson's disease, nerve damage, some forms of cancer, miscarriage, and birth defects.
