Does the integumentary system transport nutrients to cells?
The integumentary system is the body's outer protective layer made up of the skin, hair, nails, and glands. Among its primary functions are preventing infection and fluid loss, regulating body temperature, and synthesizing vitamin D. Transporting nutrients, on the other hand, is not a primary function of the integumentary system. In the human body, the circulatory system comprises the heart, blood vessels, and blood that transport oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste throughout the body to individual cells and tissues.
