How to Block Carbs
Carbohydrates are an important source of energy for your body and one of the main nutrients you need for daily survival, according to the Harvard School of Public Health. Your digestive system breaks carbohydrates down into glucose, which is then carried through the bloodstream to provide energy to vital organs. However, excess glucose in the bloodstream can lead to a variety of medical problems, including diabetes. This can be prevented by pursuing natural and synthetic ways to block the breaking down of carbohydrates, thus blocking the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream.Instructions

Ingest phaseolus vulgaris, better known as the white kidney bean. Studies have shown that the components of white kidney beans slow the rate at which carbohydrates are broken down into sugar. You can purchase a white kidney bean supplement, or you can incorporate the bean into your daily diet via soups and salads.

Take a synthetically produced carbohydrate blocker. Many brands are available in health food and vitamin stores. While some medical professionals doubt the validity of these claims, the product manufacturers state that the blockers prevent the body from breaking carbohydrates down into glucose. Many of these carb-blocking supplements contain a compound called hydroxycitric acid. Also known as Citrimax, this compound has been found in certain animal-based studies to interfere with the body's ability to break down carbohydrates.

Change the type of carbohydrates that you eat. Stay away from refined sugars, and opt instead for whole-grain breads, pastas and cereals. Complex carbohydrates take longer for the body to break down. They help you feel more full, and as they take longer to break down, you experience a more even surge of energy for an extended period of time after ingestion.
