How to Compute Carbs Per Serving
Carbohydrates metabolize into sugars, provide energy to the body and contribute to glucose levels in the blood. Diabetics must watch their carbohydrate intake closely to prevent blood-sugar levels that can lead to severe health problems including coma and death. Counting carbohydrates can also help achieve better nutrition. Use measuring cups to accurately measure the portion of food you serve.

Read the product label to find the recommended serving size and the grams of carbohydrate for that serving size. If there is no label, use a carbohydrate chart.

Compare the recommended serving size to your measured portion to figure out how many servings you actually served.

Multiply the grams of carbohydrate in a recommended serving by the number of servings you measured in the served portion to find the total grams of carbohydrates in your serving.
