How to Regulate Your Body's Alkaline pH

The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A mid-range rating of around 7 is a good pH level for the human body. In fact, a rating of 7.35pH is ideal, as this is slightly alkaline and is the optimum pH level for good health. Alkaline levels can be regulated through diet and exercise, and by avoiding stress.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat alkaline foods to reduce acidity levels. Alkaline foods include most fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and fats such as olive oil, fish oils and avocados. Bananas, figs and watermelons are particularly alkalizing. Eat potatoes and chocolate too, to increase alkaline levels. Consult a list of acidic/alkaline foods, such as the one found on EveryDiet.

Avoid acidic foods if you have determined that you have high acidity levels. Test your urine with litmus paper to see if it is acidic. If it turns yellow your body has high acidity levels. Reduce the intake of foods such as meat, fish, eggs, wine, plums and prunes. Some supplements such as Vitamin B and hydrochloric acid supplements also produce higher acidity levels. Avoid all stimulants such as coffee, tea and sugar. Do not, however, cut out acidic foods altogether, as you want to achieve an acidic-alkaline balance.

    • 3

Exercise to regulate alkaline levels. Warm up for five to 10 minutes and go for a walk for at least 15 minutes or go running if you have a good level of fitness. Try to avoid too much muscular activity such as weightlifting, as the breaking down of muscle fiber can cause an increase in acidity. Perform as much cardiovascular exercise as possible and aim to reduce body fat levels. Acid is stored in fat, so a reduction of body fat will reduce acidity levels.

Avoid stress, as stress is one of the largest acid propogators. The body produces higher levels of acid and decreases alkaline levels during stressful periods and causes circulation to be adversely affected. Sleep, rest and meditate to calm the body and reduce stress levels.
