How to Know If Your pH Level Is Too High

Most people are unaware the human body has an optimum pH level of between approximately 6.0 and 7.5. The body's pH is determined by the foods we eat because every item has its own individual pH and either raises or lowers our level. Unbalanced pH levels leave the body in a weakened state that can make us more susceptible to infections and diseases. A simple pH test lets you know if your pH level is too high or too low.

Instructions

    • 1

Conduct the first test in the morning, approximately one hour before your first meal.

    • 2

Take out one of the pH testing strips, holding it by the edges to avoid false results from contact with the oils or other substances on your fingers.

    • 3

Place approximately half the strip on your tongue and remove it quickly.

    • 4

Compare the color of the part of the strip that made contact with your tongue to the pH indicator chart that came with the pH test strips.

    • 5

Read the number below the corresponding color. A high pH is considered anything above 7.5 when testing saliva. Record the results.

    • 6

Conduct the second test at night, approximately two hours after your last meal. Use the same steps to conduct the second test.

    • 7

Repeat the test two times per week for two weeks to determine if your average pH is too high or too low. An average pH in excess of 7.5 is considered high for this type of test. An average pH of less than 6.5 in saliva is considered low.
