Which Are Acid Fruits & Which Are Sweet Fruits?
Eating fruits on a regular basis is part of a healthy, well-balanced diet. Fruits contain natural sugars, fructose and glucose, which are good for your overall health. It is important to note which fruits are sweet and which are acidic for both taste as well as medical reasons such as which acidic fruits to avoid when you suffer from an ulcer.-
Sweet Fruits
-
Sweet fruits typically contain a higher glucose and fructose content, the natural sugars found in fruit, which make them taste sweeter. Sweet fruits include bananas, dates, figs, sugar apples and pears. These fruits do well as a substitute for sugary and unhealthy foods when you are sticking to a vegetarian or raw-food diet. Because bananas have a high-fat content, you should limit yourself to just one a day.
Acidic Fruits
-
Acidic fruits contain a high water content and in general are lower in fat than other fruits. While these are healthy for most people, some with specific health conditions such as acid reflux or ulcers should avoid fruits with a high-acidic property. Highly acidic fruits include oranges, lemons, passion fruit, tangerines, tomato, grapefruit, pineapple, kiwi, tangerines and clementines. These fruits are often enjoyed for breakfast or as a mid-morning snack for those on low-fat diets and are the best fruits to enjoy on a low-carbohydrate diet as they are low in sugars.
Low-Acidic Fruits
-
While these fruits do contain some acid, they are considered low-acidic fruits. As with most other fruits, they are low in fat and contain natural sugars, which are good for your body and make good replacements for processed or high-fat snacks when on a diet. Low-acidic fruits include apricots, nectarines, mangos, olives and all types of berries such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries.
Combining Fruits
-
In general, fruit is easy to digest however when combining fruits, it is important to note which go well together and which don't in relation to how well they are digested. For the most part, when enjoying a specific fruit, you should only combine it with other fruits in that category. For instance, if you are eating an acidic fruit such as an orange, it is best not to combine it with a sugary fruit such as a banana.
High-Fat Fruits
-
Fruit is a staple of a healthy, low-fat diet however there are some fruits with a much higher fat content than others. These fruits are still just as healthy and good for you, but should be eaten in moderation. High-fat fruits include bananas, avocados, coconuts, olives and durians.
