How to Eat Hamburgers for Weight Gain

Eating a heavy dose of hamburgers from fast food restaurants is almost a sure way to pack on the pounds, but it is not a healthy way to gain weight. Fast food restaurants often serve hamburgers that are high in fat and other unhealthy nutrients. If you want to gain weight on a diet of hamburgers, make your own at home and eat a healthy, balanced diet to gain weight safely. Before attempting to gain weight through a hamburger diet, consult a physician and find out if your body is healthy enough to do so.

Instructions

    • 1

Form 8 ounces of 70 percent lean ground beef into a patty. Make the diameter of the patty slightly larger than the diameter of the hamburger bun. The hamburger patty will shrink a bit during cooking.

    • 2

Season both sides of the hamburger patty with salt and pepper (optional).

    • 3

Preheat a 10-inch sauté pan over medium-high heat for one minute.

    • 4

Add 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil to the pan. Let the oil heat up until it begins to smoke.

    • 5

Put the hamburger into the sauté pan. Cook the patty for three to five minutes on the first side.

    • 6

Flip the hamburger patty over using a spatula so the raw side is now touching the sauté pan. Cook the patty for three to five minutes.

    • 7

Remove the hamburger patty from the sauté pan using a spatula and put it on the bottom half of a hamburger bun. As is, the hamburger contains about 700 calories (610 from the ground beef, 84 from the hamburger bun). Top the burger with cheese and condiments at this point (optional). The most popular cheese put on burgers, American cheese, contains an average of 105 calories per slice. Most condiments, including ketchup and mustard, are fairly low in calories, but some, such as mayonnaise, contain about 100 calories per tablespoon.

Count the calories of each ingredient in the hamburger. If you were to eat an 8-ounce hamburger made from 70 percent lean beef on a regular hamburger bun topped with one slice of American cheese, you would be consuming about 800 calories.

Eat enough hamburgers to give you a caloric intake that is higher than the amount of calories you burn each day. According to the Mayo Clinic, in order for you to gain weight, you must consume more calories than you burn. This means that you must consume enough hamburgers to give you a caloric intake (the number of calories you consume in a day) that is larger than the number of calories you burn through daily activities such as work, walking and cleaning the house, and through exercise. Consult the Nutri Strategy chart in the Resources section to calculate the number of calories you burn each day.

Eat a balanced diet. Eating nothing but hamburgers is not the ideal diet, as you won't get the proper nutrients you need. Along with eating hamburgers, eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and dairy products.
