Juice Extracting Machines
When you drink fresh juice, your body absorbs the nutrients more quickly than when you eat whole fruits and vegetables. Juice also provides a manageable way to consume the daily recommended servings of each. To reap all the health benefits of juice, with the freshest and most nutritious fruit and vegetable juice possible, invest in a juice extractor machine. While you can choose from many brands, they all fall into four basic categories: manual, masticating, centrifugal and triturating.-
Manual Juice Extractors
-
If you prefer a simple, less expensive machine, check into a manual juice extractor. These machines squeeze the juice out, but since they don't use electricity, they require more work on your part. You must manually turn a handle to force fruits, vegetables and leafy greens through the machine, and they produce less volume than an electric juice extractor. On the positive side, no electricity means a greener machine. Also, they usually weigh less and clean up easier than an electric model.
Centrifugal Juice Extractors
-
Most juice extractors you find in department stores belong in the centrifugal category. These electric machines have an upright chute where you drop in the produce. A spinning blade chops it up and forces it through a sieve. Pulp usually separates into another container during this process. You should consume the juice made with a centrifugal juicer right away, because this high speed method forces oxygen into the juice and the oxidation quickly kills the enzymes that make juicing worthwhile.
Masticating Juice Extractor
-
A masticating juice extractor works with a single gear that chews up the produce and squeezes out the juice. These machines can produce more juice out of an item than a centrifugal machine. They also work at a slower speed and do not allow as much oxygen in the juice. This results in juice that stays fresh longer and retains more nutrients. On the downside; masticating juicers require more preparation time than a centrifugal juicer, because you must chop the produce into smaller pieces.
Triturating Juice Extractor
-
The triturating juice extractor works with twin gears and extracts even more juice than a masticating juicer. It grinds slowly and squeezes all the juice possible, along with its nutrients and enzymes, from anything that goes in it. The slow grinding means less oxidation, and this results in juice that lasts a few days. The triturating juicer has no chopping blade, so it takes more effort to feed the produce into the grinding gear mechanism.
