What Kind of Foods Should You Eat for Energy?

If you're feeling drained of energy, there are certain foods you should eat that will help you feel more energized. Eating foods high in proteins, carbohydrates and vitamin B are ideal for giving your body the energy it needs. Eating these types of food will allow your body to transform the food into energy.
  1. Fruits

    • Fruits are one of the best types of foods to increase energy. Fruits help mobilize your body's metabolism and in turn help burn fat. They are also a good source for detoxing your body. By eating at least five servings of fruits a day, your energy level should increase. The best types of fruits to eat are bananas, grapes, strawberries and fresh orange juice. Bananas contain natural sugar, which helps give the body an almost immediate increase in energy. Bananas also contain a specific amino acid that the body changes into serotonin, known as the happiness hormone. Serotonin helps people with their moods.

    Proteins

    • Proteins are vital for a body to feel energized. There are many different types of proteins, including some dairy products such as low-fat cheese, skim milk, yogurt and cottage cheese. Meats and fish also offer protein. Red meat and poultry should be eaten in moderation. Fish, such as sushi, shrimp and tuna, are great sources of protein, which helps increase a person's energy level. Eat nuts or peanut butter as good sources of protein that is ideal for boosting energy.

    Vegetables

    • Vegetables are a good source for vitamins, which also help boost energy. Broccoli and peppers are high in vitamin's B and C. Spinach, asparagus and cabbage are also good choices for energy-boosting vegetables. Soybeans are another food high in calcium, iron, fiber and several different B vitamins. Another good choice of food to eat for this is tofu.

    Carbohydrates

    • When food is consumed, the body takes it and turns it into blood sugar, or glucose. The easiest types of foods converted are carbohydrates. There are two main types of carbohydrates -- refined and complex. You should avoid eating refined carbohydrates, such as white sugar and white bread, and eat complex carbohydrates instead. Several good complex carbohydrates are oats and whole grains. Whole grain cereals and breads are great for boosting energy. They are rich in vitamin B.
