How to Substitute Applesauce for Oil in Cupcakes

If you're interested in making healthy choices, applesauce can help when baking your favorite treats. Cupcakes become healthier by substituting applesauce for the oil in any recipe. Applesauce is fat free, high fiber, low cholesterol and sodium, and high in Vitamin C. With only 50 calories in 4 oz., applesauce is a much healthier choice when baking cupcakes. Applesauce can also be used to make muffins, breads, or cakes. In most recipes, you can exchange the oil for applesauce in a 1-to-1 ratio. Experiment a bit and find out which ratio tastes better to you. In most cases there will be no noticeable change in the taste of the cupcakes.

Fold the applesauce into the ingredients for your cupcakes. Unless otherwise directed by the instructions in your recipe, mix the ingredients together with an electric mixer to ensure they are well blended.
