The Nutrition of Copper River Salmon
Copper River Salmon is caught from the Copper River in Alaska. This river is located in a remote part of Alaska and has been a spawning site for salmon for more than a hundred years. Sports-fishermen travel 300 miles to the spawning grounds to catch wild Alaska King salmon, Sockeye salmon and coho salmon from Copper River. Because this river is so remote, the waters retain a purity and an icy temperature that yields flavorful salmon rich in nutrition.-
Nutritional Information

Omega-3s can be found between the skin and the underside of Copper River salmon. These varieties of salmon also provide quality protein and Vitamin D. According to the March 2008 issue of Women's Health magazine, just a 3.5-ounce serving of salmon contains 360 international units (IU) of Vitamin D where an 8-ounce glass of Vitamin D-fortified milk contained just 100 IU.
Heart Health and Omega 3s
-
The Omega-3s found in Copper River salmon offer a wide range of health benefits for the heart, including reducing the risk of a heart attack, stabilizing heart rhythms, aiding in the regression of plaque in arteries, and reduce plaque in blood vessels. A diet rich in Omega-3s from fish can help reduce the risk of death from cardiac arrest and can help prevent a second heart attack in people who have already had a heart attack.
Additional Benefits of Omega-3s
-
This nutrient has been recommended for the treatment of many ailments, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and allergies. Omega-3s have also been found to reduce the possibility of developing Alzheimer's disease and other macular degeneration conditions. Other mental disorders that can be aided with a healthy diet of Omega-3s include depression, hostile behavior, aggressive behavior and bipolar disorder. The EPA and DHA nutrients provided by Omega-3s, when consumed by pregnant women, can improve both the brain and eye development of the fetus.
