How to Apply for Food Stamps in Colorado (FAP)
The Colorado Department of Human Services' Food Assistance Program promotes good nutrition and health to Colorado families. FAP provides monthly benefits to low-income residents, the unemployed, the elderly and the homeless to ensure that households and families get a nutritionally adequate diet. Applicants may apply through their County Department of Human Service Office, Social Services Food Assistance Office, or they may access a form from the Colorado Department of Human Services website.Things You'll Need

Household should meet required gross/net income before applying for food assistance. For instance, a household of one should not exceed $903 of his net monthly income. For families of two or more, the net income shall not exceed $312 for each additional household member.

Pick up a SNAP application at your area Colorado Department of Human Services or access an online form by visiting the Colorado Department of Human Services website. To download the application, navigate to the Food Assistance tab by clicking on"Find A Service By Need" on the Colorado Department of Human Services website. Select "Food Assistance Program" under the Assistance tab and choose the Food Assistance link located on the side bar.

Fill out the Social Security numbers and total income of all household members. List current housing, medical and utility expenses. Before mailing the application in to your local county Human Service Department, provide a copy of your state ID or driver's license with the application.

Your application should be reviewed within two to four weeks. Expect a letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services highlighting an in-house interview date and time. Contact your local Human Services Department if you must reschedule or request a phone interview.

Attend your scheduled interview on time. Bring in required documents listed in your interview packet such as valid identification, immigration documents if applicable, Social Security card, last paycheck stub between the last 30 days, unemployment or Social Security statements, and recent housing and utility receipts.

Await an acceptance letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services approving your monthly benefit amount. Once you receive the letter, activate the Colorado Quest EBT card promptly by dialing the number provided on the acceptance letter. Keep your account secure by protecting your password.

If denied FAP benefits, request an appeal form from your local Colorado Department of Human Services Office.
