Is Organic Palm Oil Good for You?
Organic palm oil, also known as red palm oil, is an excellent source of linoleic acid, and the anti-oxidants tocopherols and tocotrienols. It also consists of a balance of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fats.-
Linoleic Acid
-
The linoleic acid contained in organic palm oil is an essential fatty acid that the body cannot manufacture. It is an omega-6 fatty acid and, as such, helps with brain function and human growth and development. It also promotes skin and hair growth, bone health and metabolism regulation.
Anti-oxidants
-
Our bodies need anti-oxidants to fight free-radicals. The tocopherols and tocotrienols, or vitamin E, contained in organic palm oil are both anti-oxidants. Refined oils lose much of their natural tocopherols during processing.
Fats
-
The polunsaturated and monunsaturated fats in organic palm oil balance out the cholesterol causing saturated fat that it contains. Polyunsaturated fat lowers overall cholesterol levels while monunsaturated fat lowers LDL, bad, cholesterol.
