Ingredients for Kookaburra Licorice
Australian-based candy company Kookaburra Licorice distributes flavored and chocolate-covered licorice internationally. Ingredients vary slightly with each Kookaburra product but all Kookaburra Licorice varieties combine sweeteners with flour, natural flavors and preservatives.-
Black Licorice
-
Kookaburra's original black licorice includes wheat flour and sweeteners like molasses, treacle, wheat glucose syrup and raw sugar. Caramel and food dyes red 40, yellow 5 and blue 1 color the licorice, while licorice extract imparts flavor. Other ingredients include the thickening fats mono- and diglycerides, preservative sulphur dioxide, palm oil and modified food starch.
Flavored Licorice
-
Green apple, mango and raspberry licorice contain raw sugar, wheat glucose syrup, cane sugar, wheat flour, modified food starch, palm oil, licorice extract, artificial flavors, artificial colors and mono- and diglycerides. Citric acid regulates acidity, while sodium bicarbonate acts as a preservative. Raspberry licorice also utilizes treacle and sodium citrate, while mango and green apple flavors contain salt.
Chocolate-Covered Licorice
-
Chocolate-covered black licorice covers the original Kookaburra flavor with a milk chocolate coating consisting of cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, thickener soy lecithin, whole milk powder, sugar and vanilla. Chocolate-covered strawberry licorice utilizes the same coating over a strawberry licorice base of sugars, wheat flour, modified food starch, artificial colors and flavors, citric acid, water, palm oil, licorice extract, salt and the thickening agent soybean monoglyceride.
