Uses of Himalayan Goji Juice

The juice of the Goji berry is a powerful antioxidant drink. Recent studies show that goji antioxidants have a range of beneficial effects on human health. Goji berries are used in Chinese medicine as an anti-aging remedy and this traditional use is increasingly supported by evidence that goji berries help prevent degenerative diseases and improve overall health and well being.
  1. Nutritional Value

    • Goji berries are rich in nutrients and can provide additional vitamins and minerals to the diet. They are a source of beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, amino acids, zinc, copper, calcium, selenium and vitamins B-1, B-2 and B-6. In addition to these nutrients, goji are also a source of polyphenol chemicals -- plant antioxidants that have been shown in studies to have a beneficial effect upon human health.

    Cardiovascular Health

    • Antioxidants help to protect the entire body from oxidative stress and chemical damage caused by free radicals. A study published in "The International Journal of Biological Macromolecules" in 2010 found that the antioxidants in goji berries reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

    Blood Sugar and Diabetes

    • Despite the sugar content of goji berries, they may have a beneficial effect upon blood sugars and diseases such as diabetes. A study published in the "African Journal of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative medicine" in 2009 found goji berries had a significant beneficial effect upon blood sugar in diabetic animals. The same study also found goji had a beneficial effect upon body weight and blood lipids.

    Anti-aging

    • Goji juice is a traditional Chinese anti-aging remedy and modern scientific research to support this use is becoming increasingly common. A study published in "Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology" in 2008 showed that goji berries contain a range of anti-aging properties. According to the study, goji may protect against degenerative diseases of the nervous system, protect the eyes from glaucoma and reduce the risk of cancer through powerful antioxidant pathways.

    Nervous System

    • Another study published in "The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease" in 2010 found that goji berries helped to protect the nervous system from damage by homocysteine -- a chemical that is implicated as a possible cause of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease. A study published in "The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine" in 2008 found Goji had noticeable effects when given to human subjects, including an increased sense of well being and improved psychological performance.
