Temperature Control of Food & Pharmaceutical Products

Proper temperature control of food and pharmaceutical products is important because improper handling of these matters can contribute to the development of food-borne illness and a decrease in the effectiveness of medications.
  1. Cold Foods

    • According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, you should keep cold foods at a temperature of 40 degree Fahrenheit or lower to prevent the growth of bacteria. You should not leave food out of the refrigerator and should also make sure the refrigerator is kept at the proper temperature.

    Hot Foods

    • You should keep hot foods at a temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Refrigerate any leftovers quickly so they don't cool too much and allow for the growth of harmful bacteria.

    Pharmaceutical Products

    • Store pharmaceutical products in a place with a moderate temperature unless your pharmacist advises refrigerating a product. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures. Don't store pharmaceutical products in the bathroom because the humidity and warmth can cause them to degrade.
