According to the National Kidney Foundation, chronic kidney disease is a medical condition that could damage your kidneys and keep them from performing important tasks such as regulating body water and other minerals in your blood such as sodium, calcium and potassium.     Dairy Foods High in Phosphorous

    • To protect your bones and blood vessels, limit your intake of dairy foods when you have kidney problems because most dairy foods are high in phosphorous, and this could hinder your kidneys from regulating the phosphorous in your body efficiently. Instead, eat low-fat brands of dairy foods such as sherbet, cream cheese, ricotta cheese and brie cheese, because these brands are often low in phosphorous.

    High-Potassium Fruits

    • Fruits in general are healthy for you, but when you have chronic kidney disease, avoid fruits that are high in potassium because too much potassium can gradually damage your heart. High-potassium fruits you should avoid are oranges, kiwis, nectarines, prunes and bananas. Instead, eat apples, berries, plums and grapes.

    High-Potassium Vegetables

    • Like fruits, you should also avoid high-potassium vegetables when managing chronic kidney disease. These vegetables include potatoes, tomatoes, avocados, beets and cooked spinach. Instead, eat broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, garlic and onions.
