Frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream Comparison

Frozen yogurt is different from ice cream because it usually contains less fat or is nonfat; melts slower than traditional hard or soft-serve ice cream; and contains live active yogurt cultures which are purported to have the health benefits. The taste and texture of frozen yogurt is comparable to ice cream.
  1. Probiotics

    • The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine has found evidence that probiotics found in frozen yogurt can help people suffering from digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome and urinary tract infection.

    Lactose Intolerance and Yogurt

    • The lactose in frozen yogurt is more digestible than the lactose in ice cream. People with lactose intolerance are often able to eat frozen yogurt without incidence or symptoms.

    Fat and Sugar

    • Ice cream on average contains more fat than frozen yogurt. This will lend a smoother mouthfeel to full-fat ice cream. The sugar content of frozen yogurt and ice cream is almost identical.
