Foods for an Acid Stomach

Having an acidic stomach can be painful, causing acid reflux, ulcers and other stomach ailments. Certain foods can cause an acid stomach to be more painful, including spicy foods like chili or salsa, and acidic beverages like orange juice and coffee. Other foods can help alleviate the symptoms of an acid stomach.
  1. Dairy

    • Avoiding foods that are high in fat can help alleviate an acid stomach because they are easier to digest. Switch to 1 percent or fat-free milk and dairy products. Chocolate also contains caffeine, which can upset an acid stomach, so avoid chocolate milk or other chocolate dairy products.

    Meats

    • High-fat meats are difficult to digest. Look for lean cuts of meat, which also have more nutritional value. Avoid fatty meats such as sausage, bacon and animal skin.

    Fruits and Vegetables

    • Cook vegetables to make them easier to digest, and never fried. Tomatoes are acidic, so avoid tomatoes and tomato sauces. Also avoid citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes and pineapple. Bananas, apples, berries, peaches and other non-acidic fruits are gentle on the stomach.
