Cheese Alternatives

Cheese is made from milk and should not be consumed as part of a dairy-free diet. For children who often eat pizza and string cheese, nondairy and imitation cheeses can be used as alternatives. But kids should consume even these alternatives in moderation since they are typically made from fats and sodium.
Other Dairy Alternatives

Dairy-free diets for kids must also exclude butter, yogurt, ice cream, most puddings and baked goods that contain milk. Products made from rice milk or soy are viable replacement options. Also, products labeled nondairy are milk-free and can be eaten in place of dairy foods.
