Natural Ways to Raise Blood Presssure
Low blood pressure, or hypotension, results in inadequate blood flow to organs. Low blood pressure without signs and symptoms is not usually unhealthy and not diagnosed as hypotension. Symptoms include light-headedness, dizziness and fainting, according to MedicineNet, and can cause chest pain, heart attacks and kidney problems. There are treatments and drugs available for low blood pressure, but there are also natural ways to provide a quick fix.-
Water Intake
-
Drinking water can produce dramatic, short-term effects on blood pressure. Leigh Macmillan reports in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Weekly Newspaper that a study found that 16 ounces of tap water can increase blood pressure. The increase begins within two or three minutes after drinking water, continues rapidly over the following 15 minutes and begins to decrease after about 60 minutes. This increase in blood pressure can be sustained for another hour if you drink more water at the 60-minute mark.
Caffeine Intake
-
According to Columbia University's Go Ask Alice, caffeine may cause a temporary increase in blood pressure for people who have not developed a tolerance to caffeine. If you do have a tolerance, consuming caffeine will have little to no effect.
Electrolytes
-
Salt contains sodium and chloride, electrolytes that can help raise blood pressure, according to North Carolina State University. Eating salt or drinking beverages that contain salt and other electrolytes can raise your blood pressure.
