Ways to Get Fat
While many people spend a good part of their lives counting calories, others want, or even need, to gain weight. Even if you want to gain weight, it is not wise to begin eating fast food and dessert three times a day. In order to keep your body healthy, you will want to make smart yet high-calorie choices during your quest to gain weight.-
Eat Starch and Whole Grains
-
According to the Student Nutrition Action Committee at UCLA, starchy carbohydrates and whole grains are high in calories. Eating one or two whole-wheat rolls and a large baked potato with a 6- to 8-oz. portion of lean meat will help you add a few hundred calories to your dinner, without sacrificing your health.
Watch Your Activity Level
-
According to the Mayo Clinic, you need to consume more calories than you burn in order to gain weight. Since exercise burns calories, cut out as much exercise as possible, keeping just the recommended minimum of 30 minutes of exercise four or more times a week to keep your body healthy, as recommended by the University of Michigan Health System. The key here is balance: You need some exercise to stay healthy, but you don't want to burn to many calories. Low- to moderate-intensity exercise may help you burn fewer calories than high-intensity exercise and can help you gain muscle mass, thus healthy weight. Choose low-intensity exercises like walking or resistance training over high-intensity exercises like jogging, cycling or aerobics. For the rest of your evening, rent a few good movies, make a bag of popcorn and try to keep the night activity-free.
Eat Healthy Snacks
-
According to the Student Nutrition Action Committee at UCLA, if you are trying to gain weight you should eat three meals a day, plus a few snacks in between, as the average person will need an extra 500 calories per day just to gain a pound a week. Eating a granola bar, cup of cottage cheese with peach slices and two slices of whole-wheat toast with jelly in between meals will help you increase your caloric intake for the day.
