Good Sources of Plant Protein

Many plants are high in amino acids (incomplete proteins), but a few plants are rich in complete sources of protein such as spirulina, beans and other sea vegetables. Plants that are rich in protein are also high in other vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A and calcium. Eat these food raw or lightly steamed so that you benefit from all the nutrients because cooking food can kill vitamins and enzymes.
  1. Spirulina

    • Spirulina is a blue-green sea algae that is high in protein, minerals and vitamins such as vitamin A and C. This food is sea vegetable that you can buy whole or in pill or powder form. Add a scoop of spirulina to a strawberry smoothie to get your daily serving of protein.

    Legumes

    • Legumes fall into the category or dried beans, peas, sprouts and alfalfa just to name a few. These plants are high in protein, calcium and a long list of minerals. Eat your beans raw or slightly cooked. You can still get some nutrition if your food is cooked, but your body will benefit the most if your food is eaten raw.

    Kale

    • Kale is a dark leafy green vegetable that is high in protein, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium and other nutrients. Kale has a bitter taste so you might want to combine this plant with other foods to mask the taste. Place 1/2 cup of water, 1 cup of kale, 1 cup of strawberries and two bananas in a blender. Blend on high to make a green kale smoothie. Combing fruits with kale masks the taste so you can happily eat this plant without complaints.

    Quinoa

    • Quinoa is a protein rich grain that is also loaded with minerals and other nutrients. Eat this food raw or cooked. Quinoa has a creamy texture when cooked. This food is also rich in fiber which is essential for healthy digestion and regular bowel movements.
