What Are Good Sweets for a Diet?

The best diets that work in both helping you to lose weight and keep the weight off aren't diets--they are lifestyle changes. For example, if you stopped eating fast food, you would almost certainly lose weight. But if you stopped eating fast food for only two months and then returned to your old habits, you would most likely quickly regain the weight lost. Therefore, your daily diet should include a little bit of everything, so that you don't feel deprived and that you learn to eat things like sweets in moderation.
  1. Alternative Sweeteners

    • White sugar is full of calories, but has very little nutritional value. To satisfy your sweet tooth but keep your weight dropping, replace the sugar in your coffee and your cooking with an alternative sweetener. Honey is sweeter than sugar, so you don't need to use as much to get the same taste. Stevia is a no-calorie sweetener that comes in individual packets or in larger bags for cooking. Splenda also is a no-calorie sweetener used in baking or beverages. If you replace the sugar in your diet with one of these sugar alternatives, you will get the sweet taste you've been craving without all the calories.

    Fruit

    • Natural sugars are present in almost all fruit, making them nature's sweet, juicy, all-natural candy. Because most fruit is full of vitamins, anti-oxidants, fiber, amino acids and carbohydrates, they should already be included in your diet. Many fruits, such as, oranges, bananas and blueberries, also contain high levels of potassium, which helps to relieve muscle aches. So if you are hitting the gym along with dieting, fruit will not only fulfill your sweetness craving, but it will also help you to reach your fitness goals.

    Chocolate

    • Chocolate is a comfort food, something we reach for on a bad day to make ourselves feel better. But dark chocolate is also full of calcium and antioxidants. The darker the chocolate, the more benefits you will receive from eating it. So, steer clear of milk and white chocolate. However, because dark chocolate tends to be bitter, pair it with nonfat frozen yogurt or fresh fruit. Dark chocolate goes especially well with bananas, strawberries and pears.
